A few words from our Club President

On behalf of the Committee I would like to welcome you to the 2020/21 season with Bentleigh United Cobras. This is my first year as President after serving on the committee for the last 4 years, however I have been part of this great community for 8 years with both my boys playing for the club. I look forward to seeing all the many familiar faces and would like to offer a special warm welcome to our new families. You have joined the right club.

Season 2020 was the most challenging we have faced in our 35 year history. COVID-19 has affected all our families and ultimately it cost us the season with unfortunately not one Miniroo or Junior game played which was devastating for the kids. Luckily we managed to get some training sessions in but even with the club providing a COVID safe environment it just wasn’t to be.

Despite being unable to play games, unable to raise revenue through the canteen, the club is still in a very solid financial position thanks to our sponsors and support from the families who offered to roll over fees for Season 20. On behalf of the committee I thank you.

Bentleigh United Cobras FC aspires to be the sporting club of choice for children aged 5 to 18 years of age. We aim to provide a quality program of football with a focus on fun, fitness, and skills development in a safe, family-friendly and inclusive environment. While football is by its very nature competitive, our objective for all our kids to reach their goals as both athletes and individuals. Within the club we have specialised coaches, coordinators and mentors to help our kids be the best they can.

We always look for improvements based on previous seasons experience and feedback. It is key to have training and weekend games run smoothly. This relies on a good program, good facilities, and many helping hands. We see the role of the parent as a very hands-on approach; we need you to help us run the club and we expect parents to step into roles such as Age Group Coordinators, community coaches, Team Managers, help in the canteen etc. Any assistance with set-up and particularly pack-up is always welcome.

I would like to thank all those who have volunteered to serve on the Committee this season. The club needs great parents to run it and I am fortunate to have a fantastic team helping me run this club. I would also like to acknowledge our coaches for their ongoing commitment to developing our juniors. We are extremely fortunate to have such a strong group of people supporting our club but could always do with some more. So, if you are interested in getting involved, please do not hesitate to contact myself or others on the Committee. We can always do with more hands.

A huge thank you to our sponsors, without your ongoing amazing support there would be no Bentleigh United Cobras FC. Your generous contributions allows us to employ the best coaches within the bayside area which sets us apart from other clubs which benefits the kids and their development

I would like to take the time to thank outgoing President Theo Chronis who has been instrumental in the success of the cobras over the last 3 years. Theo has brought on many major sponsors, revitalised our women’s football and worked tirelessly with the council on the clubs redevelopment at Victory Park which looks fantastic! Thank you Theo for all your hard work and contribution.

We have so much to look forward to in Season 21 and we cannot wait to see training resume early in the New Year. Victory Park has been redeveloped with refurbished change rooms and an upgraded kitchen, it looks amazing and we thank Glen Eira council for their commitment to the club. We are looking to grow the club from 17 teams to 21 teams with an emphasis on growing female teams amongst the juniors.

We are excited to see our senior men’s team in action under a new attacking coach (Jarra Dedic) and we believe our senior women’s team is ready to take the next level under Aish Ravi. And we encourage all our families to come down and support the senior teams when in action at Victory Park.

Bring on Season 21 and go Cobras!!

Best Wishes,

Phill Oliver

President
